Have you ever heard this phrase? “I love Jesus, but I just can’t stand the church.” Or how about this one? “I’m into Jesus; I’m just not into the church.” I’ve come to call it the “Jesus Yes, Church No” response. It’s very hard not to like Jesus. Even those people who are far away from God, who are far away from the church have a hard time not liking Jesus. But it’s way, way too easy to not like church.
Over the next several weeks, we’re going to try to clarify the mission of the church and specifically our local church… Let me open up this series with a statement and a question. Here’s the Statement: Jesus loves His Church. So here’s my question:
If Jesus loves His church, why shouldn’t you?
