enigma - Message 7 - Can God Change His Mind?

enigma - Message 7 - Can God Change His Mind?

September 9, 2018 - Senior Pastor Barry Clair asks (and answers) the question "Can God Change His Mind?" in message 7 of the "enigma" series

This last week in our staff meeting, Pastors Matt and Dave were talking to me about prayer and healing. nbsp;Somehow we got onto the subject of Abraham's negotiation with God over the city of Sodom (Gen. 18).  Pastor Dave said something to the effect of, "It seemed like Abraham was able to get God to change His mind about destroying Sodom."  And, of course, that... led to about a 30-minute discussion about whether God can change His mind.  And then the inevitable question, "If God cannot change His mind, what use is prayer?"

To which Pastor Matt replied, "Sounds like an enigma to me."

enigma - Message 6 - Offended At Jesus

enigma - Message 6 - Offended At Jesus

September 2, 2018 - Senior Pastor Barry Clair shares the message "Offended At Jesus" - message 6 in the seres called "enigma"

Let me ask you a question; Have you ever been offended at Jesus?  I know that's an odd question, and at face value, that's a tough one to answer.  Has He ever failed to live up to your expectations?  I know the knee-jerk reaction is to say, "God is good all the time, and all the time, God is good!"  But if we're honest, if we are brutally honest, I think many of us - if not every single person in this room today - would say that there are occasions when God/Jesus doesn't live up to our expectations.

Have you ever been just a little bit angry with God?  And more importantly, do you even dare to admit it?

enigma - Message 5 - I Never Knew You

enigma - Message 5 - I Never Knew You

August 26, 2018 - Senior Pastor Barry Clair continues in the seres called "Enigma" with the message "I Never Knew You"

In anticipation of this seris, enigma, Pastor Kendra sent me a cartoon and suggested that the subject of it would make a great sermon for this series.  It shows a Christian seated at a coffee table on the left quoting Acts 2:21, "Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."  Seated across from him is an Atheist who is also quoting a Bible passage, Matthew 7:21, "Not everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved", which is part of our text today.

There appears to be a fundamental contradiction here.  The question becomes, which is it?  If you call on the Lord, are you saved?  Or not?  Spoiler Alert: It's all in the CONTEXT.

Can you call yourself a Christ-follower and not be one?  This is an enigma!

enigma - Message 4 - The Hope of Glory

August 19, 2018 - Senior Pastor Barry Clair continues in the seres called "Enigma" with the message "The Hope of Glory"

We continue today, the second part of a sermon I began last week in the series called enigma.  We are looking at some of the great mysteries of Scripture.  There are both explicit and implicit enigmatic topics and passages in the Bible.  We are attempting to solve these puzzles or at least unravel them a bit to get our spiritual arms around them.

enigma - Message 3 - Christ In You

enigma - Message 3 - Christ In You

August 12, 2018 - Senior Pastor Barry Clair continues in the seres called "Enigma" with the message "Christ In You"

In this series, we are examining at passages of Scripture that are baffling, perplexing, and somewhat puzzling.  We're studying sections of the Bible where the authors talk explicitly about a mystery, or something intentionally concealed and kept from understanding.

Today, I'm going to turn to another passage in Colossians chapter 1 where Paul talks about a mystery, something that he says has been kept hidden for ages and generations.
